Description
So far in the Mid-Hudson, New York region, winter has been a no show, or should I write; no snow?
So, in the meantime, fortunately I still have some keepers in the bullpen to work on and share, this being one of them. This capture was the last one I photographed back in August, 2022.
Original Liner Notes:
Over the years, I have visited and photographed the various and picturesque parks established and maintained by the non-profit organization, Scenic Hudson.
I am more than happy to share my work with them, as I feel it is the least I can do to thank them for all of their tireless efforts to protect the environment along the historic Hudson River in New York State!
I have been wanting to photograph Poets' Walk Park for quite some time, but for whatever reason; laziness, lousy weather, laziness, no fuel in the vehicle, laziness, desire to eat pizza, I never got there until recently.
I knew that this particular park was spectacular, and it came as advertised; it quickly had become one of my favorite Scenic Hudson Parks!
I drove up to Red Hook knowing that the weather was going to be favorable for some terrific captures, this being one of them.
After a short .06 mile hike on a gravel path through some wooded areas, I saw my target subject, this magnificent structure that offers the best views in the park(in my opinion, and others through research).
One can view the Hudson River, Catskill Mountains, and the Kingston-Rhinecliff Bridge from this location. This capture, being the last one I shot features all three prominently, and I incorporated the tree branches as a wonderful framing element.
I rely heavily on the photo app; "The Photographer's Ephemeris" to map out my photo shoots. It lets me know where and when the sun will set, rise, etc.....timing is everything!
Crepuscular rays are also called sun rays and sunbeams, and are created when sunlight shines through gaps in clouds and continues through an atmosphere that contains dust and/or haze. This dust or haze scatters some of the bright light that can be seen against the darker cloud and/or darker blue sky background.
I've said it before, and I'll say it again; photography is a win-win scenario! I get some exercise in while documenting visually, some of the most beautiful areas around me in the Hudson Valley (and beyond)!
Even though my music life (performance/teaching wise) is behind me, photography is now (and has been in retirement) my creative muse, and as long as I am still a creative being, no dirt will be thrown on my pine box anytime soon(I hope).
