Description
Ah yes, I finally made it out to "Henry Gourdine Park", located in Ossining, NY to photograph the controversial sculpture; "The Eye Of Sauren". (I luVed it).
Note: The official plaque reads:
“River Arch Peter Lundberg 2016”
Anyway, I'm so glad that towns that have a Hudson River shoreline, have taken advantage of the beautiful scenery that it affords. The planners in Ossining did a splendid job in developing this waterfront.
Normally, I do not like to include people in my captures, but since this is a public park, it kind of comes with the territory. Plus, if I were to wait until there were no folks around, I probably would still be there waiting on an "all-clear" signal!
Including people also aids in giving scale to the sculpture.
I do have more images yet to process that do not have any two legged specimens in it! 😉
This was the first image I composed while the golden light warmly painted the entire area, including a women and her dog just chilling out and taking it all in. It was a beautiful evening to do just that.
What follows was read by me in a short article found at the "Roadside America" website.
"It's 42 feet high, weighs 80 tons, and resembles a lumpy concrete wishbone or, as some locals have called it, an arch from the Bedrock City McDonald's. The concrete was poured on-site into an arch-shaped trench by artist Peter Lundberg, then hoisted into place in June 2015. Lundberg has said that he generally likes the piece, an opinion not shared by his Ossining critics. The part that Lundberg doesn't like is the "eye" at the apex of the arch, fitted with blue-green glass so that it glows when the sun shines through. It was put there at the request of the property developer who paid for the arch. Lundberg complained that it made his artwork look like "a lighthouse," apparently unaware of its much closer resemblance to the evil, all-seeing eye from the Lord of the Rings films.'
I am honored to be able to offer my photography of the beautiful Hudson Valley in New York and beyond for all of your purchasing considerations.
All of my photographs are available as prints, wall art, home decor, apparel, weekend bags, etc and are NOW offered with a canvas border, title, electronic signature and the year it was taken in 'The Signature Series Gallery'.
