Description
After shooting the majestic Lower Falls from Lookout Point, all one needs to do is to turn around and you will be greeted by an inspiring scene of the Yellowstone Canyon glowing with illuminating vibrancy as the canyon walls and the conifers that grow on them absorbed the early morning light of the sun.
About 14,000 years ago the Wisconsin glacier, and subsequently its meltwaters, carved and eroded away the weakened rhyolite, leaving behind a 20-mile long gorge that varies from 800 to 1,200 deep and 1,500 to 4,000 feet wide, which we know today as the 'Grand Canyon 0f Yellowstone'.
The Yellowstone River courses through the canyon like a long braid of emerald jewelry draped across a gold- and bronze sculpture.
